Norway's World Cup adventure is over
Norway's World Cup adventure is over after a 1–2 loss to England in the quarterfinals. Last result: Norway 1-2 England (2026-07-11). It means the event in the USA is at an end. Thus, a new period of waiting begins before our best men are seen in a championship again.
What is Nations League?
Nations League can be described as a series system for national teams. Instead of Norway just playing friendly matches between the World Cup and European Championship qualifying rounds, the national team meets other European nations in an official tournament. UEFA established the tournament to reduce the number of meaningless private international matches and give countries more meaningful matches against opponents of roughly the same level.
What comes next?
Norway's opponents in Division A in the fall of 2026 are: Portugal, Denmark, and Wales. The two best teams in the group go to the quarterfinals. The third-best team must play a playoff to keep their place in Division A. If Norway ends up last in the group, Norway will be relegated to Division B. The quarterfinals are played over two matches in March 2027. The four quarterfinal winners go on to the final tournament in June, with semifinals and a final.
What do you need to know about Nations League?
Nations League is a separate tournament, not the same as European Championship or World Cup qualifying. The tournament does not directly determine whether Norway will qualify for the European Championship, but a group win can be a vital lifeline if the team later fails in the regular European Championship qualifying round.
