Joshua King is one of Norway's most profiled players, but he has not been part of the national team since September 2022. In the NRK podcast «Bakrommet», King talks about the period when he went from being a regular member of the Norwegian national team to being dropped when Solbakken took over as national team coach. King says he felt that Solbakken did not have respect for him as a person and as a football player. He says he knew his time on the national team was over when Solbakken took over as national team coach at the end of 2020. King reacts to the fact that it was assistant Brede Hangeland who called and told him he was dropped from a gathering, and not Solbakken himself. One of the last times King was called up for Norway, he scored a hat-trick when Norway beat Armenia 9-0 in a friendly match. King says he felt it was a bit disrespectful that he was not called up for the next five gatherings after scoring a hat-trick. Solbakken strongly rejects the criticism from King. The national team coach says that King has been a step behind Erling Braut Haaland and Alex Sørloth in his period as national team coach. King has played 62 matches for Norway and scored 20 goals. The last time he played for Norway was in a Nations League match against Slovenia in September 2022. King is one of Norway's top scorers in the Premier League after several years in Bournemouth, and short stays in Everton and Watford. King has four goals in 20 matches for Toulouse in Ligue 1 this season.
