NFF rules out Norway's World Cup hosting bid The Norwegian Football Association (NFF) has dashed hopes of hosting the World Cup in Norway. General Secretary Karl-Petter Løken states that the country's stadiums are too small for such a major tournament. This comes a day after the national team was celebrated by 100,000 fans in Oslo. ## Why are stadiums the issue? – Our stadiums are far too small. We need venues with a capacity of 40 to 50,000 people, says Løken. Ullevaal Stadium, which currently holds 27,000 spectators, is insufficient for large tournaments. NFF believes investing in a national training facility is more important. ## What do politicians say? Several parties in the Norwegian Parliament have expressed openness to the idea of hosting the World Cup. However, they emphasize that the initiative must come from the sports community itself. Løken argues that the national team needs a larger stadium to progress further. ## What's next? NFF is now focusing on building a new national training facility. The team recently lost 1-2 to England (2026-07-11) and will face Denmark at home on September 24, 2026.
