The Norway national football team is concerned about FIFA's bidding process for the 2030 and 2034 World Cups. The team believes that the process is not in line with FIFA's own reforms from 2016 on good governance and transparent World Cup allocations. The NFF is asking that the Norwegian concern about the process surrounding the World Cup allocation be recorded in the minutes. Lise Klaveness, the president of the football association, says that the NFF cannot give its approval to a process that is not in line with the principles behind FIFA's own reforms. The NFF has previously approved only one bid for each of the two championships. These two bids for the 2030 and 2034 World Cups will be voted on simultaneously. It is still unclear whether it will be possible to cast a joint vote, or whether both bids will be approved by acclamation without a real vote at FIFA's extraordinary congress. The NFF has been discussing with several decision-makers in FIFA's administration about Norwegian concerns regarding FIFA's process for allocating the 2030 and 2034 World Cups. It is important to emphasize that our concerns have been met with respect by FIFA's Secretary General Mattias Grafström and his administration in recent weeks. The board's decision is based on a critical assessment of FIFA's allocation process, which started on October 3 last year. The NFF believes that the process does not sufficiently take into account the principles of accountability, transparency, and objectivity, as adopted in FIFA's own reforms. The NFF cannot give its approval after a process that is not in line with a good and predictable rule-based system. Refraining from voting is a conscious signal that we cannot support FIFA's approach, says Lise Klaveness. The NFF is asking that the Norwegian concern about the process surrounding the World Cup allocation be recorded in the minutes, and the association is also asking FIFA to follow up on the recommendations in the so-called 'remedy report' from FIFA's Sub-Committee on Human Rights & Social Responsibility, which was published on Saturday, November 30.
